Witten has spent 15 seasons in the NFL, all of which have been with the Cowboys. He has only missed one game in his career, which came during his rookie season.
ESPN NFL analyst Jon Gruden had been doing Monday Night Football since he took the job in 2009 but left that post to take the Oakland Raiders head coaching job. ESPN has been interviewing potential replacements for Gruden over the last several months, including several current ESPN employees and another current player in Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen.
Joe Tessitore is also set to replace Sean McDonough as the play-by-play man on Monday Night Football.
Witten caught 63 passes for 560 yards and five touchdowns last season. He finishes his career ranked fourth on the NFL's all-time career receptions list (1,152) and 21st in receiving yards (12,448).
