Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones agrees with 2012 first-round draft pick Morris Claiborne's assertion that he “knows I deserve to start” at cornerback after losing his job to a returning Orlando Scandrick.

Jones isn't about to just sign off on handing Claiborne his starting job back, however - he wants him to prove he can hang with the first string.

"You’ve got to have an attitude, in my mind, if you’re out there at corner. He’s got — and he knows as well as we do — he’s got what it takes to be a starter. But you’ve got to show me. You’ve got to show the team. You’ve got to show the coaches, and you do that by what shows up on that tape. He’s got to put it on tape in practice. He’s got to put it on tape when he gets in the game,” Jones said on KRLD, via ESPNDallas.com and NBC's Pro Football Talk. “He’s got to show that he’s going to be technically sound, that he basically understands his first assignment. Then we know that when given the opportunity, his athletic ability will kick in and he can play.”

Claiborne's rookie contract is fully guaranteed, so he will likely get a chance to show his mettle once again. However, if he proceeds to go AWOL again like he did after he learned of his benching on Tuesday, it won't matter in the long run.
