How the Dallas Cowboys Can Perform Better at Away Games

Four of the Dallas Cowboys' five wins have come on their home field.

The Cowboys have lost in Kansas, San Diego and Detroit and are headed to New Orleans next. The Saints are undefeated at home this season, while Dallas has only won against teams that are under .500 so far on the year. It's obvious that their away schedule has been more difficult than their home schedule, but the Cowboys need to prove that they're capable of winning on the road and competing with the top teams.

What do the Cowboys need to do to make sure they don't lose another away game?

Their losses have been by small margins. Two games were lost by one point, another by one touchdown and everyone remembers the close call in Denver.

It will be key for the Dallas defense to put pressure on Drew Brees and force turnovers. With how close the Cowboys' losses have been, a little extra power from the D-line could help the team come out on top. DeMarcus Ware was said to be close to returning, but ended up on the sidelines against the Vikings. Whether he will play in New Orleans is still unknown.

Tony Romo has done well throughout most of the Cowboys' games so far, but he's still making dangerous mistakes in the fourth quarter.

To make sure Romo has both successful home and away games, he has to take care of the ball when it matters most. Avoiding unneccessary risks late in games is crucial, and the offensive line needs to give Romo the protection he needs to ensure everyone executes through all four quarters.

Run and pass the ball.

Dallas has been inconsistent in splitting up their plays. In their victory against the Vikings, there wasn't much emphasis on the run game. Against a team like the Saints, Romo needs to be comfortable handing the ball off more often to recently returned DeMarco Murray. This will take pressure off Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley.

The Saints are a tough opponent and are coming off a loss to the New York Jets. They'll want to redeem themselves and maintain their undefeated home record. If the Cowboys can push through and play the same game from beginning to end, then they should be able to come out with a win.
