After a demoralizing opener against the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys are looking to get back on track against the Tennessee Titans. The Titans, not projected as a major player in the AFC, are hoping to build on an encouraging week 1 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Here's what we saw in the first two quarters:
Lessons Learned? Not Quite
After turnovers handed the 49ers an easy win last weekend, the Cowboys were expected to prioritize ball security in this game. It took just six minutes for RB DeMarco Murray - who put the ball on the ground last week - to cough up another one. The Titans couldn't capitalize, but it's still concerning for Cowboys fans to see their team continue to struggle with turnovers.
Rolling With The Punches
Despite the early turnover, the Cowboys were able to jump out to a 10-0 lead thanks to good work from two unlikely units - the offensive line and the secondary. While the line was shaky at times in pass protection, they opened up room for Murray to work with. The secondary locked down on Jake Locker, forcing an interception and holding Locker to 26 yards through the air and an interception on just 4/12 passing.
Dan Bailey Continues To Shine
The Cowboys' most consistent offensive weapon continues to be their kicker. Dan Bailey connected from 48, 44 and 51 yards, making all three look easy.
DeMarco's Big Half
DeMarco Murray didn't let his early fumble get to him, and ended up with 117 rushing yards in the first half - the second time in his career he hit the century mark before halftime.
