We continue to turn on the TV to yell and scream at each play. We buy tickets to that massive indoor stadium in Arlington, and arrive in our best gameday attire. We let the wins and losses affect our moods for days or weeks at a time - maybe it means we're true fans.
"America's team" has become one of the most controversial in the league. The Cowboys have a history of success that led them to become the best-known NFL team, but recent struggles have created a love-hate relationship between the team and the fans.
Cowboys fans have had their share of highs and lows this season, but recently it seems like Dallas just can't catch a break.
Here are five reasons we hate to love the Dallas Cowboys:
1. Those times when the offense clicks, but the defense gives away the game.
The Cowboys defense is last against the pass, 28th against the run and last overall. They've blown significant leads late in the game several times already this year.
2. Inconsistency on special teams.
A lot rides on special teams units, and Dallas has suffered in games this year because of avoidable penalties and blocked kicks.
3. Dallas struggling to make it to the playoffs.
The last time Dallas made a playoff appearance was in 2009, and that was short-lived. With the resources and payroll available and the and high expectations in Dallas, this team is running out of excuses.
4. The great players with potential that doesn't shine through.
Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Miles Austin, DeMarco Murray, and the up-and-coming Terrance Williams are all extremely skilled players that Dallas must utilize better. The flashes of excellence make the lack of results even more frustrating.
5. Tony Romo's inability to handle fourth quarter pressure.
He has the raw skill to be one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks, but miscommunications often lead to turnovers late in the game. At this point, there's no way around it - Romo struggles under pressure.
...lastly, with the recent news of Tony Romo's season-ending injury, injuries always seem to come at the worst time possible.
We continue to be Cowboys fans in hopes that one day, Dallas will be the team to beat again. When that time comes, we'll be able to say we remained loyal to the Cowboys, because we knew the whole time.
