Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain, who is set to become a free agency next month, is facing a four-game fine for violating the NFL substance abuse policy, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Todd Archer.
McClain will not miss any time at the start of 2015 since a player is only fined for a third failed test - a fourth results in a four-game suspension. He is appealing the fine.
McClain flourished in his first season with the Cowboys, recording 81 tackles and two interceptions, and Dallas is currently negotiation with his agent to try and bring him back next season.
Should he become a free agent, McClain would be one of the top outside linebackers on the market.
He was the eighth overall pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 2010 NFL Draft, but retired in 2013 after signing with the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason. The Cowboys were able to bring him out of retirement last year and gave a sixth round pick to the Ravens for a trade.
