For those thinking that veteran cornerback Brandon Carr will gladly take a pay cut with the Dallas Cowboys or risk being dropped onto the post-June 1st free agent market, the Dallas Morning News' David Moore is here with a bit of a reality check:
When Carr surveys this roster, when he analyzes the club’s options, why should he blink at all?
Carr won’t argue that he’s coming off a stellar performance. The veteran readily labels 2015 a bounce-back season. That doesn’t mean the Cowboys have the leverage to reduce his $8 million base salary.
Are the Cowboys a better secondary with first-round pick Byron Jones starting opposite Orlando Scandrick? The coaching staff doesn’t have nearly enough information to confidently make that claim.
Is Morris Claiborne a viable alternative? The former first-round pick is still recovering from a torn patellar tendon. He’s missed 18 games the last two seasons and has never made it through an NFL training camp without being injured. Can he replace Carr?
