The Dallas Cowboys announced that they have officially used their franchise tag on star wide receiver Dez Bryant, keeping him from becoming a free agent this offseason.
This keeps Bryant in Dallas for the 2015 season, and the Cowboys are hoping to reach a long-term agreement with him before the July 15 deadline. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Friday the team told Bryant's agent that he would be tagged. He will make $12.8 million next season.
Bryant was named to the Pro Bowl for the second straight season and has become one of the top receivers in the league. He caught 88 passes for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2014.
The Cowboys will now turn their attention to retaining running back DeMarco Murray, who the team let hit the free agent market.
