Cowboys News Update: Scott Linehan taking control of the offense

In today's Cowboys news update, the Dallas Cowboys' offense will hum along during the 2014 NFL season if the work passing game coordinator Scott Linehan is putting in provides any indication.

Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, head coach Jason Garrett has handed the keys to the offense to Linehan. Linehan led all of the offensive meetings for the team during the spring (per Albert Breer of NFL Network), superseding offensive coordinator Bill Callahan in that respect.

What will Linehan do differently with the Cowboys offense? According to Smith, the Cowboys will "feature more passing than Cowboys fans are accustomed to seeing. During Linehan’s previous job, as the offensive coordinator in Detroit, the Lions were always among the league leaders in pass attempts."

Detroit Lions starting quarterback Matthew Stafford averaged 42 pass attempts per game the past three seasons with Linehan as the team's offensive coordinator. Tony Romo has averaged just 36 passes per game in that span - a number which should go up considerably with Linehan calling the shots.
