Cowboys News: Troy Aikman Issues Statement To Cowboys Coaches About Play Calling

In this Cowboys news and rumors update, former Dallas Cowboys legend and current FOX lead analyst Troy Aikman had a very succinct message for the Dallas coaching staff - it's time to run the ball and then run it some more.

Per Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News, Aikman intimated flatly that "run first is the way it should be in Cowboysville. That’s what he told his Fox audience in the waning minutes of the Cowboys 26-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday."

Aikman would know. Sharing a backfield with Emmitt Smith, the Cowboys rode their running game to three Super Bowl victories just two decades ago. Aikman drew that parallel when talking about the Cowboys' victory on Sunday.

“They did it with the power running game,” Aikman told the television audience late in Sunday’s Cowboys game (via Horn's article).

After Scott Linehan and Jason Garrett tilted the scales in favor of the rushing attack on Sunday (43 rushes to just 29 passes), Aikman stated, "There’s a lot to build on.”

He did, however, finish with a straightforward statement to the Cowboys' coaching staff.

“This team is going to be capable of running the football,” he stated. “It’s just a matter of being able to stick with it. It’s just up to the coaches to do it.”
