The Dallas Cowboys play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in front of what should be a packed and loud house at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
While the league only plays a handful of showcase games across the pond during each regular season, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says the time is right for a franchise to base themselves out of London.
“On a personal basis and speaking for the Dallas Cowboys we very much would like to have a team in London,” Jones said, via Michael David Smith of NBC's Pro Football Talk. “It has cache. It has an air about it of international competition I think that London is probably one of two or three cities outside of the United States that really does have all of the criteria that I would look at for having an NFL team.”
Several NFL owners have lobbied for a team overseas, citing the fact that the league doesn't have much room left to grow in the continental United States. However, the logistics and travel associated with placing a team in a place like London remain a challenge - one that the Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones seem ready to help the league figure out how to overcome.
