Cowboys news is heating up just a few weeks into the offseason, and Chat Sports has just learned that the Dallas Cowboys have hired a new defensive coordinator from within.
According to Cowboys' insider Bryan Broaddus, the Dallas Cowboys have promoted former Detroit Lions' head coach Rod Marinelli to the position of defensive coordinator. Former Cowboys' defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin has been reassigned to an assistant head coaching role, with a focus on defense.
The Cowboys' defense struggled mightily against both the run and pass this year, and it looks as if Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones believes that extending Rod Marinelli's role is the key to solving their defensive woes.
Rod Marinelli's biggest claim to fame is his role as the Detroit Lions' head coach in 2008, when the Lions became the first team in NFL history to finish 0-16. The news of Marinelli's promotion comes hot on the heels of the addition of Scott Linehan in an offensive play-calling role. Many NFL insiders believe this reshuffling could be a precursor to the end of head coach Jason Garrett's time in Dallas.
