The Dallas Cowboys can't truly replace Dez Bryant. He's one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and the Cowboys will miss having him on the field. Bryant is out for at least six weeks and possibly twice as long. With Bryant out for so long, the Cowboys are looking into signing a free agent WR. The Cowboys need help, at least temporarily, and there are some veteran options that fill the Cowboys' need for an outside WR. Here are six players the Cowboys could sign to replace Bryant.
6. Nick Toon
Toon is one of several players the Cowboys have worked out, and he could fill-in for Bryant as an outside WR. He's a former fourth round pick from Wisconsin, but did have an ankle injury that contributed to his release from the Saints in the preseason.
5. Vince Mayle
Mayle, along with former FSU WR Rodney Smith, are on the Cowboys' practice squad. Mayle was a fourth round pick by the Cleveland Browns, but hasn't done anything in the NFL. He has potential and is a great athlete, but needs polishing.
4. A.J. Jenkins
A former first round pick by the San Francisco 49ers, Jenkins has been a bust in the NFL. The 49ers dealt him to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he failed to shed the bust label. The Cowboys added him in the offseason. He struggled early, picked up his game as training camp went along, but missed out on making the 53-man roster. His knowledge of the playbook could help him.

3. Randy Moss
Just hear me out. Moss still has the itch to play. Yes, he's 38 years old, but Moss is the freak athlete that can still play in the NFL at his age. Moss worked out with the Saints' Brandin Cooks, and Cooks believes Moss can still compete at a high level. The biggest thing Dallas needs without Bryant is a big red zone threat. That is something Moss can still be. It would probably cause a bit of a media circus, but the Cowboys are always a media circus. Jerry Jones should at least make a phone call and see if Moss is interested. It would also allow Jones to forgive himself for not drafting Moss.
2. Hakeem Nicks
The biggest name among the players the Cowboys are planning to work out, Nicks has battled injuries in recent seasons. He was great for the New York Giants early in his career, before undergoing the same surgery Bryant recently had. Nicks has never been the same player since, bouncing between the Giants, Colts and Titans. Still, Nicks has the potential to be a starter, something that can't be said for much of the current free agents.
1. Reggie Wayne
Had Wayne decided that playing for the New England Patriots was fun, he likely would have made the roster. He still has talent, and the Cowboys fit his desire to play for a contender. With young WRs like Terrance Williams and Devin Street on the roster, Wayne offers an added bonus as a veteran influence. With Bryant out for an extended period of time, Wayne is the perfect addition to the Cowboys' roster.
