The Dallas Cowboys have Super Bowl expectations this year, and open their season on Sunday night against the New York Giants. Here are three reasons why the Cowboys will start the season 1-0 by knocking off the Giants:
3) Offensive line dominance
The NFL hasn't seen an offensive line this stacked since the Cowboys' dynasty in the 1990s. Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin are all among the best at their positions. Doug Free and Ronald Leary both played well last season. Leary might even lose his job to La'El Collins, a first round talent who went undrafted. The Cowboys even spent a third round pick on Chaz Green to be their swing tackle of the future.
New York's defense line is depleted because of Jason Pierre-Paul's injury, meaning the Cowboys' offensive line should be able to do whatever they want.
2) Better defense that will limit the Giants
Dallas had the 15th ranked defense last year and they should be even better this season with Randy Gregory and DeMarcus Lawrence flashing big-time potential and the return of Sean Lee. He is one of the best linebackers in the NFL when healthy, and while Dallas needs Brandon Carr and/or Morris Claiborne to step up at the corner spot, the Cowboys defense should be improved from last season with Rod Marinelli at coordinator.
1) Tony Romo
When Romo wasn't taking his reps in training camp, he was spending time talking with and teaching the team's young wide receivers and tight ends. While the team's veteran starting quarterback has done this in the past, it really came to the forefront this summer with guys like Lucky Whitehead and Geoff Swain.
Along with being a great leader, he's also a great quarterback going up against an extremely suspect Giants defense. Romo had one of his best seasons last year, at age 34, and he's fully healthy for the first time in three seasons. He seems ready to take his game to another level in 2015, and Sunday night will be his launching pad.
