Goals from Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong overturned a 1-0 deficit after Raheem Sterling scored his third goal in two games to give Chelsea the lead.
Ralph Hasenhuttl's side had been an outsiders shout for relegation on the eve of the season with the club thrown into a variety of crises amid talk of an unsettled dressing room and recalcitrant players.
However, they have started the season in assured fashion and this evening leap-frogged their opponents here on goals scored to seventh.
