James McCarthy has been named in a provisional Republic of Ireland squad for the country’s upcoming fixtures against Switzerland and Bulgaria respectively.
The pair of matches will take place on the 5th and 10th September, each kicking off at 7.45 in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.
A Scotsman by birth, McCarthy represented Ireland from the age of 16 and has 41 caps for the senior national side to his name - playing in all four clashes for Ireland’s UEFA Euro 2016 campaign.
He last featured for his grandfather's country of birth in October of the same year.
