Everton are working on a deal to sign Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert.
The 23-year old impressed at the Olympics playing for Thierry Henry's French national side and has one full international cap.
He was followed by Manchester United and Liverpool in recent months but interest waned as Rennes' league form faltered this season.
David Moyes' side are looking at a loan deal with option to buy for Truffert as they look to bring in competition for Vitalii Mykolenko.
They had wanted Ben Chilwell on loan from Chelsea but with the Stamford Bridge club reluctant to take the injured Armando Broja back from his Goodison spell, Everton could not proceed.
