Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has called for wage caps on youth team players after revealing the extent to which salaries have ballooned for Premier League academy product.
Parish says teenagers are now demanding tens of thousands of pounds a week, since the Premier League introduced the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) with the long term aim of developing more home grown players.
As a result, the best players are seeking exorbitant wages, according to Parish, who says the average annual salary for a 17-year-old is now over a quarter of a million pounds.
Parish told the Times: 'We don't want a nanny state.
