Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson rubbishes use of 'meaningless' statistics

Roy Hodgson says he has no interest in 'meaningless' statistics such as possession and shots on target, as he prepares to go head-to-head with Jose Mourinho on Sunday afternoon.

Crystal Palace face Tottenham with both clubs well down the table in those categories, yet Spurs went into the weekend top of the Premier League and Palace are respectably mid-table.

Hodgson believes the current trend of using statistical analysis to measure a team's qualities is hugely overrated, rarely as useful as having an experienced eye, and in some cases downright deceptive.
