Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford: Brilliant Jordan Ayew strike earns narrow Eagles win to bring Hornets back down to earth after Liverpool heroics

Jordan Ayew scored a brilliant first-half strike to earn Crystal Palace a 1-0 victory over Watford and remind Nigel Pearson of the Hornets' relegation worries despite their heroics against Liverpool last week.

The visitors, who had ended the league leaders's invincibility last week, started much the brighter side but found themselves behind after 28 minutes when a typical Palace break was finished off by Ayew's fierce strike - their first shot of the game.

Referee Anthony Taylor had to show a number of players yellow cards in a feisty encounter in South London and, while both teams had second half spells where they threatened, Ayew's strike prove the decisive goal to keep Watford hovering above the drop zone in 17th.
