In Creighton’s women’s soccer Big East opener on Sunday, the Jays lost a heartbreaker as Xavier scored with four seconds remaining in the game to win 2-1.
With one minute remaining in the game, Xavier earned a corner kick. After two shots, sophomore goalkeeper McKenzie Meola made a save but sent the ball out of play for another corner kick. On the second corner attempt, Xavier forward Sydney Schembri was able to head the ball towards goal, hitting it off the top post and into the back of the net.
Creighton coach Ross Paule was upset after the game.
