NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The BIG EAST announced on Tuesday that Connecticut will replace Providence as the No. 2 seed in the East Division in this week's BIG EAST Volleyball Championship presented by JEEP.
The news comes after Providence (7-3) withdrew from the event due to COVID-related issues within its program. The Friars were set to make their first appearance at the BIG EAST Tournament since 1999, after clinching the No. 2 seed in the East Division last weekend with a pair of five-set wins vs. Villanova.
