OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton sophomore Tate Gillen claimed his first BIG EAST Player of the Week honor as the Bluejay centerfielder led Creighton to a 2-0 record at Coppin State over the weekend.
Returning to center field and the leadoff role for the Bluejays this season, Tate led the Bluejays to a perfect start to the season as he hit .714 (5-of-7) with four runs scored, two stolen bases and five RBI.
The Overland Park, Kan. native scored Creighton's first run of the season with a steal of home in the Bluejays' 24-0 rout of Coppin State on Friday afternoon.
