Following a thrilling come-from-behind win and a last-second game-winner last Saturday against Providence, and a comfortable double-digit road win at DePaul, the Bluejays return to Omaha in third place in the Big East. Their “bye week”, such as it is, is right around the corner but before they get there, they have the first rematch of the conference slate as the Xavier Musketeers visit.
Two weeks ago when Creighton and Xavier met, the Jays packed the paint, cut off passing and driving lanes, and forced the Musketeers into taking jump shots. That’s a smart strategy on paper, because Xavier has proven itself to be one of the worst shooting teams in the country, and it was a smart strategy in practice too — Xavier took 26 three-pointers in that game, and made just five.
