OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton softball's Natalia Puchino has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after tossing the first no-hitter of her career and guiding the Bluejays to a pair of victories over Kansas City.
Puchino recorded a 1-0 record last week with a team-best 2.25 ERA and seven strikeouts in three appearances.
On Wednesday, Puchino struck out a season-high six batters while became the first Bluejay freshman to throw a no-hitter since Tara Oltman did not allow a hit in her first collegiate start in 2007. The Milliken, Colorado native's no-hitter against Kansas City was the Bluejays 26th no-hitter since 1994 and was the first 7-inning complete-game no-hitter since Micaela Whitney fired a complete-game no-hitter against Seton Hall on April 2, 2016.
