SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior Jena Lawrence and sophomore Natalia Puchino combined to toss the programs 27th no-hitter since 1994 as the Creighton softball team split a pair of game at the Texas State Tournament on Friday in San Marcos, Texas.
The Bluejays fell to Southern Illinois, 3-0, in the season opener as SIU's Maddia Groff fired a perfect game for the Salukis. Creighton responded with a 2-1 win over Northwestern State with Lawrence and Puchino striking out eight in the combined no-hitter.

Fresh into a new softball season, Southern Illinois wasted no time taking a 2-0 lead, as the Salukis plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Rylie Hamilton and a sacrifice fly by Addi Baker.
