In the one-and-done atmosphere of the Big East Tournament, electrified by the crowd and energy of Madison Square Garden, the No. 2 Creighton Bluejays suffered a heartbreaking loss down the stretch to the No. 7 Providence Friars, 79-73.
On March 14, in the quarterfinals of the long-awaited conference tournament, a spirited second half fueled by determination and hard-earned points failed to propel the Bluejays to victory, thwarted by uncharacteristic poor shooting.
Shooting conversion started slow for both the Friars and Bluejays as the game kicked off.
While the shots weren’t falling early, Creighton still managed to create a seven-point lead after getting a series of five free throws thanks to a technical foul called on the Friars on a three-point shot from junior guard Trey Alexander.
