In 2010 as the offensive coordinator for the 4-8 Red Wolves football team, Hugh Freeze managed to show his skill as the offense set nine new records and averaged 30 points a game. After that season head coach Steve Roberts was fired and the administration turned the reins over to Freeze, who promptly led them to a 10-2 season and the first of a string of Sun Belt conference championships. Freeze had a history of success at lower competition levels but proved to the ASU fan base and administration that success at stAte could be attained. The road to that moment was littered with 19 years of Division 1 football futility with only 3 six win seasons to show for the effort.
