Well, at least the Crew SC didn’t squander another second-half lead. That would have required a goal and more than 25 minutes of concerted effort, both of which were lacking Sunday night in a 3-0 loss to Toronto FC at BMO Field.
The game looked more like a group wanting to get an early jump on its bye week than a veteran club trying to claw back into the playoff picture.
Columbus surrendered a goal in the eighth minute, another in the 24th minute and played with little energy or precision after that. The Crew can talk all it wants about believing the postseason is still a possibility, but overwhelming evidence points to the contrary.
