The Columbus Crew travelled to Monterrey, Mexico Wednesday night to take on CF Monterrey in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal in which the Black & Gold fell 3-0 to a simply better Rayados side. It was the Crew’s first loss since November of 2020 and ends the team’s historic run in the Champions League to Monterrey 5-2 on aggregate.
The first leg ended in a much-disputed 2-2 draw in Columbus in which head coach Caleb Porter was fined for complaints about officiating and playmaker Lucas Zelarayan was carded and suspended for the second leg.
