After a commanding first half performance, Columbus Crew SC grinded out a 2-1 win against the visiting Minnesota United at MAPFRE Stadium Wednesday night. Lucas Zelarayan scored in the opening 45 minutes and Pedro Santos added a second half tally for the team’s seventh win at home on the season.
After a brief feeling out period, the visitors ceded possession to the Crew early in the match. Columbus could only turn the possession into one shot, a 10th minute Santos effort from a Harrison Afful cross.
A lengthy delay due to an injury to Fatai Alashe that led to Sebastian Berhalter entering the match couldn’t stop the early momentum for the Black & Gold.
