A red card and accompanying one-game suspension issued to Crew SC defender Tyson Wahl on Saturday has been rescinded by Major League Soccer following an appeal by the Crew, Crew SC coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter said this morning.
According to MLS rules, a three-person review panel made up of representatives from the U.S. Soccer Federation, the Canadian Soccer Association and the Professional Referee Organization (PRO) had to unanimously agree to overturn the red card issued by referee Ted Unkel during a 3-2 Crew win over New York City on Saturday.
Unkel called a questionable foul on Crew defender Tyson Wahl in the penalty area in the 85th minute, leading to a penalty-kick goal by David Villa that cut the Crew’s lead to 3-2.
