Soccer | Crew had to move on with star Kamara gone

When Crew SC traded star striker Kei Kamara last week, there was no time for his Columbus teammates to dwell on his departure.

The Crew dealt Kamara to the New England Revolution on May 12, played Colorado to a 1-1 tie two days later and got back to work on Monday. The timing of the trade, a blockbuster by Major League Soccer standards, was “absolutely” a good thing, Crew coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter said.

The Crew did not gain any immediate return for Kamara, but it picked up two future draft picks, an international roster spot and allocation money that it can use to pursue a player when the next transfer window opens July 4.
