Crew SC announced that rookie Rodrigo Saravia will join the Guatemalan national team in advance of a friendly against Honduras on Wednesday.
The call-up to his national team, the second of Saravia’s career, capped a whirlwind two days for the 22-year-old midfielder.
Saravia was signed to his first professional contract by the Crew on Wednesday.
The Crew selected Saravia in the first round (No. 19 overall) at last month’s MLS SuperDraft. He played four seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University and was named the Atlantic Sun Conference player of the year as a senior.
Guatemala will play Honduras in Guatemala City, Saravia’s birthplace.
