Columbus Crew SC found itself in unfamiliar territory Saturday afternoon, as the Black & Gold went into halftime trailing 2-0 for the first time this season. Following a flurry of offense early from the Chicago Fire, the Crew allowed two goals within the first 14 minutes of the match, doubling the number of goals against Columbus for the entire season.
As the first half progressed, the defense settled into the game and began to show more of the poise and structure that has led the team to a historic start to the season. But it was clear that the Crew offense was going to have to go to work coming out of halftime to overcome the 2-0 deficit.
