Crew 2, Earthquakes 0 | Changes result in rare home victory

For better or worse, Gregg Berhalter has gained a reputation for being a man resistant to significant change.

Sticking to his ways helped the Crew SC coach reach the playoffs in his first two season. With this season circling the drain, however, Berhalter shook up his lineup.

It wasn’t George Costanza doing everything opposite — “Nothing's ever worked out for me with tuna on toast” — but the coach’s alterations Saturday helped lead to a convincing 2-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes before 20,031 fans at Mapfre Stadium.

Berhalter benched leading scorer Ola Kamara in favor of Adam Jahn and gave Federico Higuain the night off with the club playing its third game in eight days.
