With the run to the MLS Cup Final in 2015, Columbus Crew SC didn't have an early MLS SuperDraft pick, but they used their first selection, the 19th overall pick, to take Rodrigo Saravia.
The midfielder played and started for four years at Florida Gold Coast University, scoring two goals and registering seven assists in 67 career games. Saravia was a two-time Atlantic Sun First Team selection as a junior and a senior and was the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year in his final season in college.
As a senior, Saravia started 12 of 13 games in which he appeared, registering a career-high three assists.
