Dillon Heatherington, former second round pick from the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, made his AHL debut last season with the Lake Erie – now Cleveland – Monsters, playing 63 games in the regular season and 15 more in the playoffs while registering 3-16-19 and 0-3-3.
Heatherington is never going to be an offensive force from the blue line the way Zach Werenski is. Heatherington, however, can become a shutdown defenseman who is reliable in his own zone, as well as making exit passes to spring the forwards in transition. Heatherington is also noted for being a reliable penalty killer.
