In a long-awaited trade, the Columbus Blue Jackets sent Patrik Laine and a 2026 second round pick to the Montreal Canadiens. In return, the Blue Jackets receive Jordan Harris, a 24-year old left-handed defenseman.
Laine entered the Player Assistance Program in late January and at some point in the spring let the Jackets front office know that he wanted a change of scenery. Incoming GM Don Waddell was made aware of this and has worked to make it happen as soon as Laine was cleared from the program last month.
At first glance, it’s a notably underwhelming return for a player with such offensive upside.
