The Cleveland Monsters are off to a hot start and out showing their NHL affiliate Columbus Blue Jackets to this point. On Monday they faced off against the reigning Calder Cup champion Toronto Marlies and walked away with a 5-3 victory at the Coca-Cola Coliseum.
The Monsters started the game quickly with a goal from Ryan MacInnis roughly three and a half minutes into the first period. Two minutes later Justin Scott would make it 2-0 in favor of the Monsters.
It wouldn’t be until there were about five minutes left in the first for the Marlies to show signs of life with a Chris Mueller goal which shrunk the Monsters’ lead to one.
