The first time the Columbus Blue Jackets played the Washington Capitals in the 2016-2017 season was on November 15th 2016 as Zach Werenski‘s goal in regulation and Cam Atkinson‘s overtime winner would give the Blue Jackets a 2-1 win. Less than a week later on November 20th 2016, Nick Foligno, Brandon Dubinsky and Alexander Wennberg would all contribute to a 3-2 Columbus win in regulation.
Less than two months later on January 5th, 2017; the Washington Capitals would get revenge by handing the Blue Jackets a 5-0 shutout loss and by breaking their sixteen game winning streak.
