Jon Messick stepping down after three decades as Colorado State tennis coach

FORT COLLINS — Saying he had given it some thought the past few months, Jon Messick announced he is retiring as the Colorado State tennis coach on Tuesday.

Messick has been with the university for 31 seasons, starting first as the men's coach in 1985, leading them for 11 seasons before the program was dropped. He started coaching the women in 1989, when he was named the USPTA Intermountain Division coach of the year.

Messick is one of four coaches in CSU history to have been a head coach for 30 years or more, joining Harry Hughes (41 for track and field, 31 for football), Tommy Tompkin (33 for men's swimming) and John Mattos (31 for women's swimming).
