LAS VEGAS — Defense is the driving engine behind Colorado State women's basketball and the trend continued Wednesday as the Rams played suffocating defense to beat UNLV 64-56 at Cox Pavilion.
CSU (12-1, 2-0 Mountain West) limited the Lady Rebels to just 27 percent shooting from the floor, including 6 of 30 from behind the 3-point line (20 percent).
The Rams never trailed in the contest, leading for more than 38 minutes and pulled ahead by as many as 19 points in the third quarter. Senior Jamie Patrick continued her hot offensive streak, pacing the Rams with 15 points and a team-best four assists, while juniors Ellen Nystrom and Elin Gustavsson poured in 14 and 11, respectively.
