FORT COLLINS — John Jancek wasn't given free reign, but he did have a voice.
When the offseason hit, Colorado State head coach Mike Bobo didn't have a defensive staff. Former defensive coordinator Marty English had announced his retirement in November, and before the Rams played in their bowl game, cornerbacks coach Terry Fair had departed for Tennessee.
It was on the first signing day in December when Bobo announced the remainder of the defensive staff was not retained, leaving that part of the building empty. The hiring of Jancek as the new defensive coordinator put a name at the top, now he needed people to work with, and the assembled staff now has the chance to create its own blueprint for the Rams moving forward.
