Losers of seven of their last eight, Colorado State basketball was in need of a change, and for most of Wednesday night at Thomas & Mack Center against UNLV, that looked to be exactly the case.
But despite a career night from Nico Carvacho, holding a lead for more than 30 minutes of play — including an 11-point advantage in the second half — and shooting 13 percent better than their counterparts from the field, CSU dropped its Mountain West opener 78-76 in the closing seconds.
The Rams led for the entire second half until the 2:03 mark when a Rebel free throw knotted the game at 73.
