FORT COLLINS — Naturally, Colorado State fans are bracing for the inevitable. With a first-year starter at quarterback, there will be highs and lows. Nick Stevens is going to have growing pains, plain and simple.

There is the required adjustment period that must take place to get to the point every college coach wants to be, and that's heading into a season with a veteran quarterback. There's just nothing better.

Really?

Because the most recent history in the sport is saying otherwise. Five of the past six teams crowned national champions have done so with a first-year starter at quarterback.
