FORT COLLINS — For as much success the Colorado State women's basketball team has had the past three years under coach Ryun Williams — winning the last two Mountain West regular season championships — season openers have been a bit of a struggle, going 1-2.
That trend, if you can even call it that, had zero carryover Saturday as CSU opened the 2015-16 campaign with a dominant 84-42 win over visiting Western State at Moby Arena.
With its full-court man-to-man press, CSU's defense was simply smothering. The Division II Mountaineers turned the ball over 33 times — leading to 22 steals for the Rams — and scored just two points in the second quarter.
