The Mountain West had gone from a one-bid league for the NCAA tournament to having three teams qualify. It came about through tougher scheduling and winning some of those matches. It happened because Colorado State was still really good, but no longer the conference champion.

Only one team out of the Mountain West is tournament-bound.
