LARAMIE, Wyo. — A month into the season, Tom Hilbert knew he had a team that required growth. Players — old and new — were in key places (some different), thanks to a change in the offensive system.
The Rams grew up in a hurry. Over the past 10 weeks, the No. 12 team in the country put the Mountain West to shame, running the table on the conference for the second time in program history and just the second time in the conference's existence. Naturally, finishing up on the road in the Border War with rival Wyoming made the final chapter one of the toughest, with the Rams taken to the edge by the Cowgirls in a 25-15, 25-20, 20-25, 25-27, 15-11 victory to cap an 18-0 MW season.
