FORT COLLINS — Colorado State was looking for a fitting ending before renewing its longest rivalry at a new address.
Hosting rival Wyoming to open Mountain West play Saturday night in the final season of Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium, the Rams got off to a strong start up 14-3 early in the second quarter. But a couple of costly turnovers gave the Cowboys the lead, and they never let it up in commanding 38-17 Border War victory.
After giving up three straight explosive plays to Wyoming on the Cowboys' first drive of the game, the Rams' defense held in a first-and-goal situation, forcing a 35-yard field goal from Cooper Rothe to give Wyoming an early lead.
